Last night at dinner with my cousin and his wife (who are visiting the UK from Brevig Mission, Alaska. There’s a photo of them on this page titled ‘Teachers at Brevig Mission School’). They were telling me how there are no roads to their village so all non-local travel is by airplane. They estimated they would take at least 30 flights this year alone. And most of those are to do things like ‘go to a restuarant’…
They said the Bering Strait School District is almost as large as the UK and that when kids have sporting events they are flown in the school district’s plane to and from matches. They also talked about how at ski meets the course has to be surrounded by loads of people with guns in order to shoot any polar bears that might decide to come along and eat one of the kids…
I totally want to go to Brevig Mission right now…

Are you sure its for the Polar Bears and not those pesky penguins? Yeah, I know they look all cute and stuff but I bet you they are all carrying flick-knives and mace. Dangerous little fellas I tell you!
Hold on… are there ANY penguins in Alaska???
P.S. Thanks for the Anti-Spam idea, I put it on my blog and it cut out a lot of the spammers. Apart from one called Bill for some reason.
No problem, Mark… Bill must be a real person then… a real sad person…
Is that C.O.? Wow! I would love to get in touch with him. Can you pass me his contact info when you get a chance, or send on my email address? Would greatly appreciate it. Hope all is well in the UK!
JJ
PS – Your Rocky video from the other day cracked me up……the “friend” looks exactly like my cat, Calvin. They have a language of their own, don’t they? :)
It is indeed CO! I’ll pass his details asap (I’m on my way out right now…). I may be seeing him again in a week or so- I’ll say ‘hi’! (JJ is another one of my cousins… I have millions)
