Lost In Sunshine
I’m not going to surface from Sunshine until the film is released.
I’ve now seen Sunshine three times – the first time with Brian, Phil and Damien, all of whom worked on the film, the second time with a group of film journalists, the final time with, well, just normal people who knew nothing more about the film than anyone else… This last time was the most remarkable viewing. The first time I was thinking things like ‘Oh! That’s when Damien and I were under the set!’ or ‘Oooo that scene’s changed loads!’. The second time I was purely worried about the reaction of everyone else in the screening room. The final time I was able to just watch it… and my mind was blown out of my head.
In a conversation about the film with someone from IMDB who has seen the film, we were talking about the ending and s/he said that it’s “indeed one of the most beautiful scenes in contemporary science fiction, in my opinion.”… The other night, it made me cry… it wasn’t trying to make me cry at all, but it did… One shot in particular speaks a million words… which we all desperately need to hear these days.
It’s an absolute privilege to be associated, no matter how insignificantly, with the film…. and I hope you all take the time to have a look at the site, big up the film in whatever way you can and don’t forget me as I disappear into the Sun.

*sigh*
I think I said it over at the forum, but my favorite thing about the film, since I haven’t seen it yet, is the people it’s allowed me to meet. Like you! But also the other people over there like Chero and Brittany. I knew Kim from before, but it’s nice to be able to get to know her in a different area. I just love meeting everyone, because it seems like everyone who’s deep enough into it to be regulars on the forum are just a really, really great bunch of people.
Much better trailer than the first.
Wish I didn’t live so far from London or I’d have loved to have been at one of those screenings, but them’s the breaks. Looking forward to the national release.
For me it’s the first time i’ve ever been *inside* a movie production and following it nearly from the begining, thorugh the site .
It is a great ride, i’m costantly checking
SunshineDNA for updates, and like Amanda wrote, it gave me a chance to meet great friends.
Keep up the amazing work you do over there.
I was wondering if I could use your catching sunshine 1 on a blog post? I would most definitely link back to you!
Erika, of *course* you can. Thanks for asking though!

Brian was in London Lite on thursday….
It was such a privilege to see the film on Friday, and I completely echo what you said – some of the shots are jaw-dropping, and it was amazing seeing on screen what I’d read about on the Sunshine blog months ago. Funny you should mention that it made you cry the other night – the first thing D said to me as we came out of the theatre was, “Is my mascara running?”
I cry rather easily at emotionally manipulative films – mainly things to do with kids and their mother or the sad bits in romantic comedies, but they are trying to make you cry. ‘Sunshine’ doesn’t attempt to manipulate your emotions at all. Still a few times during the film and ‘that shot’ in particular just really said something to me which I will let others discover for themselves…
Brian and I have been trying to think of another sci-fi film which has a similarly important message. We could only think of The Day The Earth Stood Still… there were, however, several episodes of Star Trek we thought of, but couldn’t think of any other films…

London Lite page has a Sunshine trailer on the website No. 1
p.s. I think Firefox doesn’t seem to like your ‘idiot spammer’ question…
Can’t wait for the film…

Brian again in Telegraph… Sunshine………
I’ve just seen my first “Sunshine” trailer when at the movies this afternoon(ok I was there to see “Ghost Rider” I admit it!). It looks really promising and I’ll definately be going to see it when it gets released to “regional cinemas”! :)
When IS it being released? I can’t even find anything specific in the “Sunshine” website.
R- I did have the release dates up on the Sunshine site, but Searchlight asked me to take them down. (It’s like they don’t want anyone to know when it’s being released!!!). It depends on where you live. It’s opening in the UK on the 5th of April, and pretty much everywhere else then or within a matter of two weeks after that. The US, however, currently has its release date at the 14th of Sept.
sunshine an the q ball. :)
