Shit? No, not in the least. The opposite, in fact. I loved this when I first read it and I'm glad you Tweeted about it again. Although I think the wonderful image (your son catching the sun?) that accompanied it should be included. :)

The concept of 'heat death' described in last night 'Wonders' is rather frightening, even though I'll not be around to experience it. The cessation of everything. We're such a fundamental part of this universe and its laws, it's a hard concept to grasp.

And then I re-read your blog piece again today and, for some reason I can't fathom, I felt better. The message is essentially the same; everything will eventually cease to be. We're dependent entirely on our sun and that sun is finite. Should we ever leave this solar system, or even galaxy, it'll be another finite sun or suns we depend on for life. There is no escaping this fact. I shouldn't feel better but I do. Perhaps it's because you've encapsulated the idea in human terms; when it's all gone, it won't matter because there will be no-one around to care? Perhaps it's because we live, struggle, create, laugh, cry and love despite the inevitability?

Or perhaps I've already become used to the idea?

Whatever the reason, thanks for the glimpse into the making of 'Sunshine' and what it means to you.

Beautiful. Expresses some of the ideas behind the film perfectly. The rest of the ideas are too personal to be expressed by a third party.
Certainly not shit.

Not see this writing before - but alerted to it today from Twitter.

I saw the film at the flicks when it came out (with a glass of red in a very civilised cinema). Loved it. Seen it a few times since.

It's a sublime film. I agree with Brian, you need to see it more - as with most films, especially films (especially sci-fi films) as elegiac as this.

No idea what your involvement was Brian - need to do some research.

I always feel washed out and small after seeing films like this.

Its a wonderful tribute to someone we each all hold dear to us. The Sun keeps on going, never stopping, never demanding anything of us, and yet we still, sometimes, take it for granted and don't deserve to be illuminated by its brilliance.

soulmining, I *promise* you will get *loads* more from it next time. I think the first viewing can be a bit overwhelming for a lot of people- though many people loved being overwhelmed by the film, some don't like how it makes them feel at all. The second viewing allows people to watch it without either being so tense that you're worried a vein is going to burst or being so blown away by the visuals that you sit there with your mouth hanging open...

I also honestly think 'Sunshine' is a 'grown-ups' film. I remember watching Mona Lisa with my mother when I was 17. Everyone was raving about it at the time, so we went along. I thought it was boring, my mother cried through almost the whole thing... I'm 100% positive that now I am the same age as my mother was then, *I* would be deeply moved by it and cry the whole way through if I watched it again...

Re: IMDB... *sigh* I'm starting to think the destruction of the entire human race mightn't be a bad idea... ;)

It's funny, I was reading some of the message boards on IMDb today (boy, there are some ignorant people lurking there, I don't know how you put up with some of the abuse) and I was wondering exactly what your own *personal* take on the film was - and this piece sums it up perfectly. You manage to express some of the themes in the film so much better than I was able to in my own review! I'm really looking forward to watching Sunshine again next week, I really want to see how it appears on second viewing... :)

Definitely NOT sh*t!! Thanks for posting this here for us to read.
