CERN Photos
Some new photos from CERN taken whilst doing the CERN Podcast. These are some lovely photos from the computer centre, mainly from the ‘computer graveyard’. Click for bigger versions at Flickr where you can see more photos.

That’s pretty cool… our datacentres have more flashing lights and aren’t quite as shiny, though. They’re more “nineties punk” than “hyper-futuristic science centre”. I don’t know if that’s better or worse :-)
My favorite photos are of the LHC itself–that machine is truly a thing of beauty, one of the modern wonders of the world.
I wish I could be there when they turn the LHC on for the first time….
I was asked by a couple people to take more photos of the computer ‘graveyard’ at CERN. I was particularly excited by the CERN punch cards!
Are they 100% sure it’s not going to blow us all back to the stone age when they turn it on? Or is a degree of uncertainty part of the thrill? Either way, it’s awesome!
Toby- Cosmic Rays are far more energetic than anything the LHC can produce. They are constantly bombarding the Earth (you’ve probably been hit by one whilst you’ve been reading this) and have been since the day it was formed. They’ve not destroyed the Earth throughout its 5 billion year history – ie we’re still here. So, I think you can deduce the chances of the LHC destroying the Earth ;)
Wow! I am astonish by the picture. Just like the data center or what.
Btw, hi! from Malaysia. Just a small country in Asia.
Your blog is very neat and nice.
I like it..

I have watched the movie 28 Weeks Later and find it very interesting. The zombie or what they call that, the infected one chasing people all around and i also feel like to run away. hehehe. What I am remember the most in my mind is when the husband take out the wife eyes.. Can’t imagine that. But, the ending is not quite best I think
