Ageing, the World Service and 70s Cops

Phew! Once again I’ve been running on adrenaline for the past few weeks. No good. No good at all. After I got over about 6 weeks of illness earlier this autumn, I’m once again on the verge of illness – some annoying flu-thing. Grrrrr.

I’ve been up to some interesting things, including working on a project which is looking into the ageing population and the problems associated with the changing demographics. Apart from thinking, ‘Jesus Christ, who is going to pay for it all??!’ it’s made me re-think the whole Transhumanist thing… at least until dementia can be avoided. My current position? Cane it hard until 85 and die.

I’ve just got in from recording an episode of Digital Planet – I dissed both Windows and Mac, so am proud of my even-handed cynicism.

Finally, something that I can’t really write about, but is, perhaps, the start of another chapter in the ever-changing, always intriguing world of Gia. I give you the start of a recent answerphone message:

Yes, that David Soul. Sometimes my life is so fricken cool.

Don’t give up on him baby!

Spend less time dashing around after David …..who?…and more relaxing to Richard Hawley, who’s so laid back I think he recorded “Lady’s Bridge” while he was still in bed. I’ve never got past the first track. I start snoring halfway through it.

    Otherwise, you’ll never make 85.

RJ, I can tell you’re not a woman in her late-30s to early-50s otherwise David Soul would mean something to you! One of my aunts who was a teenager at the time had her room plastered with posters of Starsky and Hutch… :)

If it’s a business based around answer phone messages left by David Soul then I’d like to sign up for the first one please.

That is a totally excellent business idea… hmmm. I might just steal that.

That is the best opening to an answerphone message – so casually said…

  7. giagia says:

H, I agree… it’s on par with the time that I answered my phone at home and heard, ‘Hi is that Gia? This is Billy Bragg.’ 8-O
