Water Lilies

Been doing some Water Lilies related stuff while Brian is attending the TED talks. The film comes out from the 14th of March in the UK. It’s a brilliant film and is getting great reviews from everywhere.

On The Waterfront

TED

I am at TED with Brian now. We arrived in Monterey yesterday, registered, had a walk, then went to the TED Speakers’ Welcome Party. As you can imagine, we met all kinds of interesting people – scientists, entrepreneurs, artists. We *didn’t* speak to Al Gore, Robin Williams, Cameron Diaz or Meg Ryan – but I [...]

My Dream

Sunday Times Wired

There’s an article about Brian in today’s Sunday Times. We read it about an hour ago when we woke up here in San Francisco, I said, “It makes it sound like all you do is eat, drink wine and talk about physics.” There was a pause where he just looked at me and I realised [...]

San Fran

Well, we’re having an odd day. I needed to call my bank twice to get my bank card working… but it’s working now so that’s all good. Macy’s department store was having a big sale and with the dollar so weak and the visitors’ card which gives 11% off, I got quite a lot of [...]

In SF

I’m in bed in San Francisco, awake, 5am, crazy jetlag, Brian’s asleep next to me. I’m on my Nokia n810 so I don’t disturb him. I can’t type very quickly which is slightly crap. My bank froze my card, clearly they thought a purchase in the UK, followed by one in Germany, followed by an [...]

Robots In San Francisco

First off, thanks to everyone at Walking With Robots for such a brilliant 3 days. You guys rule! Also, thanks to all of you blog friends for visiting the Walking with Robots blog and saying ‘hi’. We all really appreciated it. A super, special thanks to Jonathan Sanderson for asking me along. Nice to finally [...]

Walking With Robots

Jonathan Sanderson and I are in Bristol working for Walking With Robots running a New Media workshop. Please visit the blog and make comments, ask questions. If you want to know more about the workshop or a particular story, ask… We are (hopefully) teaching roboticists and AI researchers how to use the web and the [...]

Sensible Environmentalism

I’m watching at least one TED talk a day as Brian and I are off to TED at the end of next week (he’s talking :). I saw an interesting one this morning by Amory Lovins. It’s about weaning the US off oil by 2040, yet he talks about building more cars, not less and [...]

End Of The World As We Know It

I want to explain why I think many proponents of Global Warming are ‘fundamentalist’ in their beliefs and behaviour. This is prompted by my previous post and the conversation with Christian X Burnham in the comments.

I started recycling before it was fashionable. I used to walk carrying bags filled with glass, paper and cans to the nearest recycling containers. Then I used to ride my bike with all the recycling. I did this for well over 10 years before my council started home collections.

Science Valentines

Scientists in love. I just read Phil Plait’s I Cardiovascular You post and he linked to Ironic Sans’ Scientist Valentines post. They inspired me to do my own! Go on, you do one now!

Flashes, Football and Fools

I decided to try a bit of video…(about 6 minutes long) Watch Video

People Believe Weird Things

I’m watching loads of TED Talks as Brian and I are off to TED in a few weeks (look at Friday’s speakers *ahem*). There’s just so very many excellent talks… I saw this one this morning and thought at least a few people here would be interested in it.
