Yay! Happy days to the proud parents x

  2. Oh hooray! I saw this on your status update and thought “Ooh ooh ooh please say it’s a baby!” Smart people having babies is such a nice change of pace. Congrats!

  3. AB Kovacs says:

    Goodness! Many congrats!

  4. GregW says:

    Many Many congrats!

    Wee hoo! Congrats.

  8. Pishba says:

Happy News. When is the baby due?

  9. Pete Cooper says:

Wicked news! So happy for you both :)

  10. giagia says:

Pishba – it’s due in June… but as it’s my second pregnancy, I’ve already pretty much grown out of my normal clothes. I’ve been staying “out of the public eye” for the past several weeks because I thought it was getting rather noticeable!

  11. PhysTeach says:

Congratulations to you both! Bet Brian’s smile is even wider now! I wish you and your expanding family every happiness- you deserve it.

  12. bruce says:

  16. wow gia – that’s amazing ! congratulations to both of you =)

  17. Jase says:

My (probably suspect) mental arithmetic puts conception somewhere around the same time as the LHC was being switched on.

Applying comic-book science, you should probably keep an eye for your progeny developing super powers.

    Congratulations :)

  18. Nik Butler says:

Woohoo , Waaahay and congrats and uhm such fun news. we look forward to more ..

  19. Toby Jones says:

    Congratulations Gia!

  20. Danacea says:

What a wonderful picture – congratulations to you both :-D

  21. Annie Mole says:

That’s fantastic news & congratulations to all of you. He or she may turn out to have a birth sign of Cancer – which unfortunately is the same sign as Dubya but on a plus side is the same as Harrison Ford!

  22. Hiya Gia – Congratulations! The baby’s going to be some sort of science geek squared, aren’t they?

  23. Mark says:

Congratulations to the two of you. Especially Brian. All those years standing next to particle accelerators and high energy contraptions without lead-lined underpants on and one of his boys still made it. Way to go.

  24. Fantastic news – congratualtions to you both!

  25. Suw says:

Congratulations to you both!! I’m so happy for you – this is wonderful news!

  26. Amanda says:

Wow! Congratulations! This is great news!

  27. Carrie says:

Wow that’s fantastic news Gia, huge contratulations to both of you, is Mo excited about getting a baby brother/sister?

  28. gia says:

Carrie, yes, Mo is super excited, too. At the moment it seems like it’s a boy – they’re 75% sure – we’re going to find out for sure in January. :)

  29. Creepy Lesbo says:

Congratulations! You’ve no doubt made some sort of new superpower human. I look forward to being ruled by them in my old age.

  30. Carrie says:

The scan looks amazing Gia, they never cease to make me smile. I’ve been getting broodier and broodier myself lately so I fear this may just tip me over the edge!!

  31. M.A. says:

Congratulations, that’s a great news!! :] Your son must be happy as well!

  32. Mark says:

Many congratulations to you both – that’s great news !

  33. r says:

Heartiest of congratulations…to all three of you (you, Brian, and Mo). And special congratulations to the child for picking such an excellent family! Long life and happiness to you all!

  34. Congratulations, soon the real experiments start, and Brian can study how time disappears around babies ;)

  35. patrice says:

Wow Gia, that’s the BEST ultrasound picture I’ve ever seen! I don’t think I’ve ever had one that perfect (and I’ve had a lot). Woohoo!

  36. Congratulations, Gia and Brian! We are so happy for you both! How did the cats take the news?

Hopefully we can see you in May. Yesterday we were accepted into the London study-abroad program for Summer 2009

  37. Patti says:

Congratulations! It’s such wonderful news. Please can I be a babysitter sometime?

  38. Penny says:

Congratulations! Please post more pix as they become available. My husband and I are debating starting a family too, but, as I’m 39 years old and have never been pregnant, I’m a bit apprehensive and dubious about the whole thing. Please keep us all apprised of how things are going.

Have the two of you thought up names yet? I’m particularly fond of Cameron for boys, for some reason.

  39. Emms says:

Hey congrats to you both, love the pic, enjoy the months ahead xxx

  40. mgt says:

    Congratulations to you both :)

  41. giagia says:

    Penny, I’m 39, too.

I was *extremely* worried about things leading up to my scan as walking in the door at 39 years old the baby has a 1 in 93 chance of chromosomal abnormalities. After a scan at the Fetal Medicine Unit, however, I was told my risk is less than a 15 year old’s.

I’m slightly worried about the birth as I’m a lot older than I was last time… but I’ve already delivered a breech birth, so I know I can get a baby *out*!

Women are made to deliver babies. If you two decide to get pregnant, the overwhelming odds are that everything will go completely fine. And as pregnancy is filled with worry (though that worry doesn’t really stop at birth!), you have to try keep the ‘what ifs’ out of your mind so that you can enjoy it.

  42. Drac says:

Nice one, congratulations to you both. Can I be a dog parent ;o).
    Drac.

  43. Drac says:

Gia, don’t worry about the age thing, I was older than that when Jerry was born :o)

    Drac.

  44. Gia DesLauriers says:

    Congratulations, Gia (and Brian, too),

You may remember me, the “other” Gia from Duluth. A few years ago we connected on your blog when I decided to google you back then and found you online. Just today your last name popped into in my head so I googled you again. Glad to know you are doing so well vocationally and avocationally!

Enjoy these months of pregnancy — there’s nothing like it, as you know. Take it from someone who gave birth at 40 with my third child (seven years ago) — I’d do it again!

    Gia (Mix) DesLauriers

  45. Brian Malow says:

    Gia and Brian,

It takes news just a bit longer to make its way around the globe.

    Congratulations!

The particle accelerator worked. The beam was perfectly directed. The collision is a success!

The results will be studied and celebrated for years to come, shedding new light on the nature of reality.

  46. Katie says:

Allow me to add my congratulations!! As a youngest sibling I can safely say that your son will ultimately enslave the new baby. It’s the natural progression, I think. Somehow I never questioned my older sister’s orders, not once!

It will be a loving enslavement, I’m sure. Not like my dad’s older sister, who once threatened to “rip off his arm and beat him with the bloody stump”. Aww!

  47. Tom Reynolds says:

Congratulations – looks like the UK average IQ will jump a few points in a few months time…

  48. mel says:

Ah congratulations!! That are really great news! Seems that everybody around me is pregnant or having a baby right now. Makes me think of a 2nd one even more *lol*
Wish u & Brian a great pregnancy, enjoy this time!

    best wishes,
    foxtrot

  49. Tracy Weaver says:

Congratulations to you and the Family :D, wishing you a trouble free pregnancy and nice cravings if you get them!

*Is also thinking about a starting a family with my partner but I also fall into the ‘worry’ category at 36…my partner, however assures me he (as a Genetic Scientist) we make sure we have no genetic problems apart from the poor genetic pool they will originate from! He jokes….I hope ;)*

Anyway this made me smile today, when there seems little to smile about sometimes – so thanks!

  50. giagia says:

Tracy, at 36 you’re still fine. The *most* important thing is that you are *healthy* now…

  51. Penny says:

Thanks for the reassurance, Gia–it meant a lot. :)

My husband and I will probably get genetic counseling before trying to conceive to see if there is anything to watch out for. Tracy, I know of a woman in the office who had 2 healthy kids after the age of 45 without resorting to fertility treatments, so it can be done.

  52. Tracy says:

Thanks for the positive responses Gia & Penny :D, appreciate it, still congrats to Gia and hopefully Penny, Congrats to you very shortly!

    x

  53. Peter E says:

Only just caught up with this (not sure reading month old Twitters is the proper use of the application) – nice one and congrats Gia and Brian!
    xx

  54. Elisa says:

Just saw this having not checked your blog for a while… great news to come back to (and a great pic!).

As for the age issue, my mother was 40 when I was born and 42 when she had my sister, we’re both fine and I know many other women who’ve had healthy babies relatively late in life. Women are now given so much conflicting advice it must be hard to just relax and enjoy a pregnancy, so it’s good to see so many positive and reassuring replies on here.

    Congrats to you and Brian,

    Elisa xxx

  55. Kadath123 says:

WTF was the point of the previous post – you f**kin’ ass. Stop spending your ICT lessons trolling and do your homework – Twat.

  56. Drac says:

Dear unknown person, second hand lives can be obtained cheaply at all branches of the Salvation Army Hostels.

  57. Mark says:

    B**H … B**H … Bath?

I was going to suggest that the link to “Unknown Person”‘s site was bound to be a fake since the person is “Unknown” but having seen that site and how awful it is I have surmised that this unknown idiot and that site’s owner must be, at least, related.

  58. Emms says:

I think this is a serious case for delete and block

  59. Penny says:

I agree with Emms. This ‘Unknown Person’ is clearly a troll of the lowest order, one of nastier forms of slime molds that infest the internet.

He, she, or they can’t spell worth a damn either, so they are clearly an *uneducated*, *half-literate* species of slime mold.

  60. Emms says:

I checked out the unknown person site – it is a hoax, falsely advertising PICZO, which is probably good if used in the right hands. Anyway a complete waste of space I say no more comments re. the unknown person – aka twat

  61. Bigger Pills says:

Probably someone who thinks the LHC is going to destroy the world ;)

  62. giagia says:

Sorry, I’ve not been here for a while. Checked comments tonight assuming that nothing much will have happened and there was apparently a troll/spammer who seemed to think that because Brian and I don’t wear wedding rings that I’m somehow lying about being married…

    Are people still that old-fashioned?!

  63. giagia says:

Actually, I’ve found out that she’s 11. And I’ve found her mum. I’ll email her asking to stop otherwise I’ll email her mum… :)

  64. Mark says:

Gia Milinovich, P.I. : “Just one more thing, ma’am …”

  65. Penny says:

    **SHE!!??**

You know, 11 years old is old enough to know better.

Women truly can be each others’ worst enemies.

Let’s see how she’ll take such comments when *she’s* pregnant (god forbid).

  66. giagia says:

Penny, in a way I understand. When I was a teenager and in love with Duran Duran, I would have hated their wives or girlfriends because they had taken the man I wanted to marry. If ‘unknown’ (from Kingston Upon Hull… :) is in love w Brian a) she has good taste b) she’s overwhelmed by her puberty hormones so isn’t capable of thinking properly.

  67. Katie says:

Ah, see I never even bothered fancying Duran Duran because I always assumed they were gay lol

Wait, isn’t that the other accusation about Brian, that he’s gay? WTF – I’m bi and have a pretty good gaydar and it never went off with him even before I knew he was married. Is it just because he giggles and has nice hair? Cos that does not a gay make.

Anyway, most inappropriate talk for an entry all about your behbeh. I’ll shhh now.

  68. giagia says:

Ha! Well, when I first met him he was travelling to NYC to watch Bernadette Peters in Annie Get Your Gun. He cries at The Wizard of Oz. And genuinely likes Liza Minelli.

I don’t think I was wrong to think he may be gay! ;)

  69. Drac says:

I’ve known Brian since he was 17 and seen him in many of the unusual and precarious situations presented by the world of rock ‘n’ roll, he isn’t gay. He is however sensible. :o)
    Drac.

  70. hi gia looser vich we meet again i see brian is still not married to you (yes)
i hate you gia stinky vich stupid

  71. Penny says:

Hmmm…the guys in Duran Duran never did anything for me, although I loved their music. I had it bad for Mark Hamill, though (go figure), and thoroughly disliked his poor wife simply for being married to ‘my’ man. Therefore, I see your point RE where your pest may be coming from.

However, there is a difference between 11-year-old me and Miss ‘Unknown’: I would *never* have started harassing the wife of the object of my affection. I knew that my fantasies of getting together with Mark were just that: fantasies. Not to be acted upon. ‘Unknown’s behavior goes far beyond a simple expression of jealousy by a lovelorn pubescent girl; if she had made just one or two posts and then disappeared, that would have been one thing. This, however, is starting to look like stalking and is worrisome. I hope I’m over-reacting.

  72. Katie says:

    @Penny

I was the same about Mark Hamill – particularly the swamp scene with him and Yoda, sent my little heart a flutter!

I’ve had to research a few band forums (shudder) for my sister’s journo work, and can say with absolute certainty that otherwise plain silly ‘crushes’ are mutated by the level of access the Internet provides…and the kids’ minds mutated as well. This is really an issue for the parents to learn that it takes a bit of IT cunning and a lot of parental respect to prevent youthful obsessions reaching this degree.

Call me a bore, but I hate seeing children loping about with mobiles squashed to their faces or texting furiously, knowing full well they’re going to go straight home and onto the computer/game console. By nature children are already in their own bubble, but this is just keeping them there.

Perhaps Gia might think about doing a hip mom’s approach to children and technology? I would watch, and I don’t even have kids yet.

  73. giagia says:

Katie and Penny, well I’ve now emailed who I think is ‘unknown’s’ mother along with a link to this current comment as well as a jpg from the admin section of my blog showing all of her contact details and IP address.

She’s also got herself (and probably a bunch of others using her ISP) a ban… :)

I’m just too busy to deal with this stuff.

  74. giagia says:

“Unknown’s” mother has emailed back. She confronted her daughter – who had no idea everyone could see her comments – and it now seems to be dealt with. She said her daughter was horrified and embarrassed which I said was more than punishment enough.

I also told her mother to make sure she understands that she isn’t anonymous online to save her getting into a similar situation in the future.

  75. Emms says:

Just read some of these – she should be embarrased.

    How’s the pregnancy going??

  76. Peter E says:

Enjoyed this little saga a lot. I’d like to have been a fly on the wall when her mother confronted her!

Hope you’re having fun and that the pregnancy is going well – if the two aren’t mutually exclusive…

  77. giagia says:

Peter, I can only imagine how awful she felt. I *did* send her an email saying that if she left more messages I’d contact her mother… Perhaps she didn’t pick up her mail…
